Nice provisional NWA specimen with a nice thumb print. In person this has a light gray hue different from all my other specimens. Found in Morocco in 2006 and listed as a L/LL-4-5, Shock level S2, and Weathering leve W3/4. I purchased a few of Tom Phillips "over a kilo Dean Bessey's collection" and this was given as a gift. "It is a very nice display sample (beautiful shape to display) in a rather rare classification. It was collected in Morocco in 2006. Classification is a provisional Breccia L/LL 4/5, S2, W3/4. NWA 5142 is a group of meteorites that were pulled out of a several hundred Kg. shipment of unclassified NWA meteorites. They looked very weathered with a white and red color. Very distinctive to the other meteorites in the pile. When cut the interior is a rich black. Unlike other weathered meteorites, this material is very VERY hard and stable. I found I could clean the exterior with acid and not harm the meteorite. How it got it's nick name, "Perfect Chondrule": I started taking micrographs and had some killer chondrule shots. One set in particular, was passed around and got the email subject line "Perfect Chondrule" Soon after I had friends in the meteorite community emailing me about the Perfect Chondrule meteorites I had. That is how the name "Perfect Chondrule" got started for this material. Please keep in mind, the material has some beautiful chondrules but because the material is so black, they are not all that visible. (They sure are on an incident light microscope.) So there it is. This is the "Perfect Chondrule" meteorite but the chondrules are not all that obvious!" (Tom Phillips)

"These micrographs are from the first email of "The Perfect chondrule" Not the best quality images but I had just gotten started with this material. No thin section at that point so these are taken in incident (reflected) light. This goes so far back (When I had just started taking micrographs) they were taken with a 1mp point and shoot camera!" (Sent with approval by Tom Phillips)
